“Per Aspera Ad Astra”
A famous quote that translates to “through hardships to the stars”. I live by this quote literally and figuratively.
I am Dalia Bekdache, a senior Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon. I aspire to become an Aerospace Engineer, and my next step to pursuing my dream career is to enroll for a Master’s degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics in the top universities in the United States or United Kingdom. My ultimate goal is to create a startup company in the Middle East that would encourage young talented minds to follow their dreams of working in the Aerospace field, especially in Lebanon.
I am currently the President of the Lebanese Aerospace and Automotive Society in AUB, where we are encouraging university students to join three unique projects in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Automotive field that have never been done in the region. I am taking part in one of these projects as my final year project: I am the dedicated driver for the SAE Supermileage Team while also designing and manufacturing, in a team of 7, a one-manned vehicle with the aim of fuel efficiency and highest mileage. Additionally, I am managing the AUB Rocket Team, a nationally recognized team backed by the Lebanese Army Forces, where were are building a sounding rocket to launch into sub-orbital earth. We will be competing in the United States for both projects. This society is my first step to reaching for the stars, as my ultimate dream is to become an Astronaut. I aspire to fulfill my goals, no matter how impossible they may currently seem, and I hope to instill a sense of inspiration in future Lebanese generations that would encourage them to reach for the stars as well. My favorite quote ‘Per Aspera, Ad Astra’ translates to ‘Through hardships to the stars’, always reminding me to keep pushing forward for the dreams and goals that I set for myself.

I originally started this website to post my blogs and projects for my Digital Humanities course (ENGL256B) at the American University of Beirut. To my surprise, this course has taught me lots of valuable information. It’s much more interesting than I thought, and it’s still a relatively new field and major in many universities around the world. We first started the course by making new twitter accounts and following official digital humanities pages from other universities in the U.S and U.K to learn more about their work and projects with time. I happened to take this course once the COVID-19 was announced as a pandemic, so most of my work for this course was completed at home. It was slightly challenging to work with my team on our deliverables, however the end result was extremely beneficial to us all. I consider this course to be one of the nicest and informative courses I’ve taken at my university. I hope you’ll enjoy the content that I post as much as I’ve enjoyed working on them for you all to read and look into. I hope you’re all currently safe and healthy at home with your families, and I hope you’ll stay tuned for any future posts!
