Welcome to Ad Astra with Dalia Bekdache
Welcome! I, Dalia Bekdache, am a senior Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon. I created this website for my Introduction to Digital Humanities course, where I will be sharing my learning experiences through projects and blogs. Throughout the course, I will be working with several teammates to discover digital tools like Voyant Tools and Google MyMaps to eventually conduct a research project to investigate our interests in the humanities. Check out our 5 blogs, and most importantly, do not miss the chance to check out our TimelineJS project on Dr. Seuss’s Children’s books.
I hope to continue posting blogs on my site, even after completing my digital humanities course. Also, I’ve been very active on twitter, mainly posting about digital humanities, but this course showed me the importance of such social media platforms in sharing ideas and messages with people who share similar interests. Check out my tweets below, and I hope you’ll also learn a thing or two about digital humanities. Enjoy!

So, what is Digital Humanities?
To put it simply, it is an academic field which utilizes methods and tools of emergent technologies for history, philosophy, human geography, literature, art, and many more. DH can also be considered a new scholarly method for conducting digital research, publishing, and teaching.
“It harbors networks of people who have been working together, sharing research, arguing, competing, and collaborating for many years…. a culture that values collaboration, openness, nonhierarchical relations, and agility”
Matthew G. Kirschenbaum
